Am I Already A U.S. Citizen?

Although that question might sound strange at first, many individuals do not realize that they are already U.S. citizens.  Individuals may be U.S. citizens based on either their place of birth and/or their parent’s nationality.

The law determining citizenship based on parents has change frequently through the years.  Because of the changing laws, concluding whether a person possesses citizenship is very fact specific.  If you have parents (or other direct ancestors) that possess (or possessed) U.S. Citizenship, it is highly recommended that you consult with a knowledgeable citizenship lawyer.

Those individuals who qualify must apply for a certificate of citizenship.
